During Carers Week 2024 the Council is highlighting the support available for carers of adults in Northumberland.

Carers Week is a UK-wide campaign which aims to raise awareness of caring, highlighting the challenges family and friend carers face, and acknowledge the huge contribution carers make.

Millions of people across the UK care, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health condition or addiction cannot cope without their support.

Many of them don’t think of themselves as carers or realise that there is a range of support available for them in Northumberland.

The adult social care operational lead for carers, Carole Paz, said: “You are a carer if you provide unpaid help to someone who depends upon you because of frailty, mental or physical health problems, illness, or substance misuse.

You don’t have to live in the same house or be related to the person you care for.

We value the huge contribution carers make, and we recognise that caring for someone can be challenging and carers need support as well.

“We want to raise awareness of the range of support that is available for carers of adults in the county, both online and in person.

There are lots of organisations who can provide advice, support and guidance for our unpaid carers in Northumberland. "
